First Hair Cut

Olivia's hair is curly and I LOVE it.  I have always wanted curly hair and since I didn't have any I had hoped that my daughters would have it.  Well, Rebecca ended up with hair like mine (which is beautiful, btw), but Olivia ended up with soft curls. YAY!  However, Olivia's hair was starting to get nasty on the ends.  It had not been cut and I could tell that the ends were still that soft baby hair that she was born with.  While it was darling when she was born, it was becoming all messy and hard to brush.  So... we took a trip over to Grandma's house for a hair cut.

My mom is a beautician who lives right across the street. (Can you say super convenient?) One afternoon after nap time I scooped up Olivia and over to Grandma's house we went.  Surprisingly she sat very still (I think that she was still 1/2 asleep) and did a wonderful job.  Grandma only took the very ends off, but it feels and looks so much nicer and fresher!  Hopefully it will be a little while until the next haircut - I want to enjoy those curls some more!

A little uncertain as Grandma gets started....
Finally a smile!

A little piece of our history

Last weekend we sold the vehicle that I purchased when I was a freshman in college.  It must have been over Easter break when my parents, sister and I drove to a local dealership and I purchased a black 1994 Chevy Cavalier with 74,857 miles.  Nick and I sold it this weekend.  It had 211,207 miles on it and a lot more rust. :)  Can't hardly believe that we drove it for that many miles.

5 years ago when we moved back "home" we told ourselves that we would just drive the car until it couldn't be driven any more.  There have been a few times when we thought that it was done, but then my dad would come through for us with a repair and it continued on chugging down the road. (Thanks, Dad!)  It finally reached the point where it needed a repair that we were unwilling to pay for.  We posted it on Craigslist and just like that we had a buyer and it was gone.  (Truthfully it is a relief to have it gone this quickly!)

For now we are driving my parent's spare vehicle while Nick searches for a "new" car that meets our criteria.  It is a little usual these days....We used to be able to hear the Cavalier coming from blocks away, now we have to wait until we hear the garage door before knowing when Nick is coming home. :)

(I took the above photo as the new owner was driving off our driveway in the Cavalier.)

And Rebecca said...

Kids sometimes just say the funniest things and it is all that you can do to keep from laughing!  They say it is all seriousness and so you know it is important to them and thus must not laugh, but it is so hard! :)

Just a last few days Rebecca has said a few things that just have to be recorded.

February 4 was her half-birthday.  A few days later she says, "Mom, I can tell that I am 6 and half.  I just feel bigger and taller and thing just look different!"  (Bad Mommy Side-note: I totally forgot that it was Rebecca's half-birthday and that I needed to send treats! UGH! Nothing like spoiling your child's special day at school. We sent them a few days late and she was very forgiving about it but I still felt terrible.  Nothing like forgetting and important day for the "middle" child.)

We always have the kids put their meal dishes in the dishwasher or sink after a meal.  One evening Rebecca was putting her dishes in the dishwasher and she looks at me and goes, "You know, this dishwasher thing comes in pretty handy for getting the dishes clean."  Yes, I would agree. :)

2 year old talk

At Olivia's 2 year well child doctor visit I expressed some concern to our family doctor regarding her speech.  We visited about it for a little while and then he examined Olivia and discovered that she had an ear infection (other than being crabby she had displayed no symptoms).  This started a journey of 4 (known) ear infections in 2 months and a set of tubes in her ears.

The tubes have been in her ears for a little more than 3 weeks and I can already see an improvement in her speech.  She is quicker to repeat what you say and I think that daily she says words that I can't remember he saying before.  Needless to say, I am thrilled!

I know that our other two said things that I found darling, but Olivia has a way of shorting words and creating her own little "language" that I find just darling.  Here are a few of her "words" and their translation.

Moo-Moo  - not a cow, but a movie
My Pill-Pill - not her medication, but her Pillow Pet
Aa-Aa - her little stuffed sock monkey that she received for Christmas

I know that there are many more, but of course I can't come up with them now.  Maybe I will think of them later and have to add them! :)
