Garden Time

For the first time in many years, my parent's back yard once again has a garden. We had a garden there when I was a child, but my parent's have let it go to grass in the past 10+ years (understandably so). However, we decided that it was time to till up the grass and plant a small garden. Our garden only contains green beans (a large portion of the garden), carrots (Micah's request), onions and tomatoes.

We planted last night after supper, for those of you who live in our area you know how windy it was. We were worried that some of the seeds would blow away, but everything made it safely into the ground! Here are some pictures of the adventure!

Nick and my dad trying to keep the carrot seeds from blowing away!

Who unraveled all that string?!?!? (The one with the guilty grin on his face!)

What's been going on

Life has just been trucking on by this last week. I find it hard to believe that more than a week has past by since I last posted and yet I am not sure what I should have posted about. I will try to give you a list of some of the highlights of what has been going on.

1. First I must wish my hubby a belated birthday. His birthday was on the 19th and he was in Lincoln, NE visiting some friends. It wasn't that I forgot his birthday, I was just so wrapped up in taking care of things here that I forgot to blog about it. Nick, Happy Belated Birthday! Thank you for all that you do for me and the kids and for how you love us everyday. May the Lord bless you and us with many more birthdays!

2. Becca has taken a liking to some of her summer shoes. It has finally been warm enough that we have been able to regularly wear the crocs and even the sandals a little bit. Becca's favorites are her lip-lops. (any guesses on what that is?) :)

3. The kids have been have numerous arguments over matter of little consequence. Supper tonight contained several arguments alone. One was regarding 2 of Micah's chips and if they were circles or not. (Please help! I don't know if I can handle 16 more years of these kind of arguments!)

4. When we moved into our home I had decided that after Becca was born I was going to paint our hall coat closet. Well, 2.5 years later it still had not been painted. So I decided to see how much I could get done as the kids napped on Saturday. Surprisingly I was able to get the entire thing painted! (It really isn't that big of a closet.) Tonight I finally got everything put back in it and am really happy with the final product.

5. (May have posted about this one... been too long... can't remember.) Becca recently has been quite sick. (You won't know to look at her.) However last week Monday morning I took her to the clinic to discover that she had sinus infection, double ear infection, and either tonsilitis or strep throat. Her symtoms? A runny nose and 1 hour of being crabby on Sunday. I still think that children need to come equipped with a light that flashes when they need to go to the doctor.

6. Over the weekend I helped to rescue our neighbor's little boy who had gotten his head stuck in the slats of their patio railing. Not a big deal, but it is a little scary when you see a little one with their head stuck. Got hime out and everything is a okay! Hopefully all the kids learned to not try that one again! :)

7. I know that there is more, but that I all that I can think of right now. Hopefully I will get some pictures in the coming days as we start to plant our garden that we are sharing with my parents.

Kindergarten Round-Up

Micah had kindergarten round-up today. It is hard to believe that our baby is old enough to go to kindergarten next fall. He is so excited and is very ready, but it is making mom and dad feel pretty old! LOL!

He rode the bus to school (had to get on at 7AM - early for this mom!) and loved every minute of the ride. Had fun at recess and enjoyed interacting with his future classmates.

They took his picture today and sent it home on a "WANTED" poster which they had decorated with rice and noodles. Needless to say, Micah wants to go back and told me this afternoon that tomorrow he gets to start going to kindergarten. For mom's sake I think that it is a good thing it is a few months until the first day of school.

Easter

Happy Easter to everyone! We hope that you had a wonderful day remembering the amazing gift that our Lord and Savior gave all of us.

We had a beautiful service at church this morning with some traditional Easter songs as well as some recently released songs sang by our choir. It was a great reminder of the joy that should be present in our lives every day of the year.

After church we enjoyed lunch with Nick's grandparents. Here is a picture of the kids in their Easter morning attire. (Yes, Becca wore her flower girl dress again. She called herself a princess on more than one occasion.)

She also enjoyed spinning and showing off her princess moves. As you can tell she really enjoys her flower girl dress! (Sorry that it is sideways.)

The kids also enjoyed a little Easter Egg Hunt courtesy of grandma and auntie. Grandpa looked on and enjoyed watching the kids discover the hidden treasures. (Lots of goodies for the whole family to enjoy!)

Laundry Detergent

I have had many requests for the recipe that I used to make laundry detergent a few weeks back. So here are the websites that I used!

http://www.thefamilyhomestead.com/laundrysoap.htm
http://tipnut.com/10-homemade-laundry-soap-detergent-recipes/

I used the recipe from the first website and added some clean linen fragrance oil. It seems to be working really well! I am thinking that next time I make it I will increase the powder ingredients by 1/4 of a cup to hopefully give it some extra cleaning power for those really dirty clothes. (We seem to have more of those in the summer time!)

Hope it works as well for you as it did for me! Good luck!

Wedding Pictures

We finally got our hands on the candid photos from my sister's wedding. There were more than 1300 candid photos and nearly that many from the professional photographer. Should be enough! However it takes forever to wade through them all and find the really good ones. Here are some of the best from the candid photographer. Thanks Tim! The photos are wonderful!

Probably one of the funniest moments of the day was when Becca went up Melinda's dress. She had a hoop skirt and we had joked that the kids would think it was a fun little tent. Well Becca went to check it out. She was trying to pick up her flower petals when she noticed the opening and she just climbed on in! Too Funny! :)

Medicine

This morning I was in the bathroom getting ready to go to town. Becca wandered and picked up a bottle of children's ibprofen that had been sitting on our bathroom counter. (Becca was so crabby last night and I didn't know what so I gave her a dose of it in hopes that might solve the problem. She seemed happier after that so it might have helped some!)

Thinking that this would be a good time to teach her that only mommies and daddies give medicine I said to her, "What is that?"

"Medicine"

"Who gives you medicine?"

She thought and pondered while studying the bottle.

"God"

What can you say to that? :)
